As a reflection of Wallsend Football Club’s growing commitment to the local community through a range of positive ventures, Good Sports, the national program that drives the importance of sporting clubs and the role they play in the community through education and support, has named W.F.C. the NSW Club of the Year for 2011. This is a fine achievement for all those involved with the club, and something that ought to inspire the club to push on with its community links. Wallsend Six-A-Side Football is back for Season Two: Bigger, Better, Best. We welcome all teams who participated in Season One to return and compete in this year’s competition. Thanks to the Newcastle City Council, Wallsend Oval Number Two has some fantastic new lights. Incredibly bright, these will provide teams with two fields to train on and allow the club to host more night games. Let’s enjoy them.

The Junior Devil’s approached this match in high spirits after a couple of weeks off due to wet weather and were keen to try and impress against top-of-the-table Nelson Bay. The boy’s started the game strong with a few early chances and lots of good solid defence.

A string of positive results across all three grades is feeding a positive atmosphere within the club. Matches against Tenambit and Beresfield have seen The Reds push hard for decent results; edging all three grades closer to the top-four and reflecting to earnest efforts of the clubs’ players.

A stunning come-from-behind performance has secured Wallsend FC derby-day honours with a 3-1 victory against Plattsburg-Maryland at Col Curran. In the first competitive clash recorded between the teams, a healthy number of supporters lined the field to get behind the teams and create an excellent atmosphere.

A number of senior players and coaches of Wallsend F.C. have been kind enough to take time out of their schedules to engage with the local community through the fun of football. Students of St. Patrick’s Primary School have been participating in football lessons and games to support positive physical activity and to develop interests in sport.

The annual junior trivia night is fast approaching. The 2011 edition will be held on June 18th, with doors opening at 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start. Once again the festivities are to be hosted at Wallsend High School Hall, with an arrangement of tables and chairs set up for teams and participants.
