After the opening day win against Garden Suburb, a midweek match against Beresfield and the weekend’s match at Kotara South saw W.F.C. fall to two defeats. A delayed start to the season due to wet-weather was followed by a quick-fire three matches in seven days, a pile-up that resulted in a few niggling injuries and fitness issues.

Wallsend Football Club have opened their 2011 season with a 3-2 victory over Garden Suburb at The Gardens. After having the misfortune of missing several weeks of football due to relentless wet weather, it was always going to be a tough ask for all grades to stick with it for the full ninety-minutes.

After an evening of Round Two Solo Cup action at The Gardens, both Charlestown City Blues and Broadmeadow Magic have progressed to the next round after defeating New Lambton and Wallsend Football Club, respectively.

After a couple of weeks of the relative unknown, W.F.C. have been given confirmation by Newcastle Football that they will be competing in Zone Division One, higher than what was expected. The club can now start to build three solid teams [first, reserve and third grades] in the hope to be able to compete with the best this year.

The club made public after an in-house meeting that Wallsend local and former player, Chris Gallagher, was to be named first-grade coach for the upcoming 2011 season. After the news filtered through, and word-of-mouth spread, a few familiar faces from seasons passed had returned to help Gallagher rebuild the club, starting with the victory over Weston Swifts at the weekend.

Wallsend F.C. have defeated Weston Swifts for the second year running in the first round of the 2011 edition of Northern NSW’s Solo Cup. On a day that also saw matches between Barnsley and Cooks Hill, and Muswellbrook FC and University, a total of thirteen goals were knocked into the back of the net in another fine experience of football at The Gardens.
